Correctional Mental Health Services or CMHS services are health services providing care to individuals such as primary health care, mental health, oral health, in-patient, and specialist outpatient services according to Queensland Health (2023). The services provided in prisons are similar to what a primary care may provide. Specialist Prison Mental Health Services provide support with severe mental illness and behavior (Queensland Health 2023). For many of the mental health delivery services, there is a screening in order to separate the inmates with who has severe symptoms along with patients at risk of suicide or self-harm. The Special Prison Mental Health Services provide multidisciplinary assessments and treatment, provide consultations and even assist with the transition as inmates are released into the community. They conduct and monitor risk assessments for self harm behavior, evidence based intervention, along with inquiring and assessing for cognitive function, providing psychoeducation, promoting coping skills. It is important to understand the differences in procedures or routines in order to continue to promote the wellness of others.

When it comes to the organizational different between correctional mental health delivery systems, there are 3 different levels. The first level is the identification of of mental disorders and treatment for offenders that may have certain terrible thoughts such as suicide or homicide ( Fagan, & Ax, 2011). This level of correctional mental health services are the basic services where the offender would be getting examined and put through intake screening and risk assessments. Next, is level 2 and this level is focused on specific groups of offenders such as substance abusers ( Fagan, & ax, 2011). This focus on specific groups can help offenders focus on their main issue and trying to fix that problem within their mental health, it also allows offenders to see that there are other people like them that have the same exact issues. The last level is level 3 and this level focuses on organizational, staff and directing behavior science intervention (Fagan & Ax, 2011). Through this, this level focuses on the level of care within a institution and if there needs to be a impact on the overall management of the individual correctional facility. The reason to understanding these levels is because each of them have their own unique parts and their own unique ways to help offenders with their mental disorders. When looking at all of these levels, I feel each have their own specific importance and reasoning and so each appeals to me greatly.

Incapacitation reduces crime by literally preventing someone from committing crime in society through direct control during the incarceration experience (Bushway, 2014). Incapacitation and reintegration are goals that appear to juxtapose one another but can be achieved if balanced correctly. The period of incapacitation is temporary and it is meant to restrain the accused from engaging in any form of criminal acts for a specific period of time. Incapacitation doesn’t aim to strip away all the knowledge and skills of the accused that is unable to contribute to the functioning of society as an active member. During the process of incapacitation it is recommended that individuals be given the opportunity to practice and learn some skills even if they are basic in nature, so that their essence as a productive being isn’t lost. Based on faith and work, a person with a Christian worldview wouldn’t be so harsh on a punishment, life in prison they would see things differently. God’s Word speaks authoritatively about creation, fall and redemption as well as the restoration of all things through Christ Jesus. Therefore, we are convinced that the Christian worldview offers hope of restoration, not only for individuals, but also for families, communities and societies in which individuals live, work and serve one another (Grand Canyon University, n.d.).
